I went to the Illini show this last weekend, it was the APA National Meet. Brought a group of bantam Phoenix, two pullets, two cockerels and one cock. I usually don't expect anything more than a passing glance by the judges, certainly never to be in the running for the SCCL class. Well, Jeff Halbach was judging the class and when I checked my coop tags, he had put a smiley face on the cockerel he picked as Best of Breed. I guess he really liked him, and I have to admit I'm pleased with this bird's size and type and he was in gorgeous condition that day. I thought I'd pay attention to the class judging, just to see if my boy was good enough to get a second look. My pleasant surprise for the weekend was that he DID get looked at for the SCCL judging, along with the Leghorns, RIR's, Japanese and Rocks! I'll see this breed on Champion Row yet, I can feel it!

Congratulations! That's great news! It's going to be so good to see them being taken seriously for a change! There should be more judges like Jeff Halbach who apparently look at the breeds equally. Post a pic of your high ranking fellow when you get the chance. David

That is awesome to hear they are getting recognized. I had the judge at the Missouri State Fair pull out one of my pullets three times!! when picking the SCCL class. He ended up picking a RIR rooster but we are getting closer!!! I just don't think it is quite politically correct yet. But soon one of us will get a bird they cannot deny!!

Took some pictures the other day, it's been rainy, excuse the damp feather ends. Just hatched last January, I'm expecting good things as he continues to mature.

That's a great bird! Thanks a bunch for posting his pics. It's amazing that he's just 9 mo old. With as full as his feathering is already, just imagine what he's going to look like after he regrows from his first molt. Excellent work you've done!

That is a beautiful bird! Not only his feathers but his earlobes are perfectly white and 5 points on his comb. Thanks for posting him!
