High emotions yesterday, when I found my first two "Onagadori" eggs.
Deep Depressions at 8 pm.At This time Klaus Lüft, the father from Patrick Lüft called me.
He Told me that Mr. Haertel in Reust is selling Onagadori X Schubert Phoenix as pure Onags - and I got from him my cock and a hen!!!
So, The reality is, that I keep only one pure Onagadori hen!
Wow- it was a sleepless night.
But in Spring I will get from Klaus Lüft some real Onags also from Gerd Stehle, so I'm looking forward to the coming breedseason.
Klaus told me also that the Japaneese Culture Department is still investigating against Mr. Haertel.

Oh, that sounds so familiar! That is exactly what people here in the US do! Except the crosses that were used long ago were not up to the genetic similarity quality of the Schubert Phoenix.

Don't despair, the Schubert line of Phoenix has Onagadori in its ancestry more recently than some other lines from what I understand. There's a chance it could still be carrying the right genetics with that extra dose of Onagadori. The Onagadori traits pretty much work on simple recessive double combinations. So it could all still be there in the offspring x the pure Onagadori hen.

Can you elaborate on that? Why are they investigating against him; for making the false claims?

the Japaneese investigate against him, because he sold to a meber of the Japaneese ambasy in Bern several birds as pure Onags.
the onags are highly protected in Japan and the ambasy is also Territory of Japan, so he fooled a Japaneese in his homeland.

Oh my, that could be counted as serious fraud! Do you know how the embassy member discovered that they were not true Onagadori; if someone told them about it, or if they noticed significant traits missing?

The Guy who bought the birds knows Klaus Lüft very good. I think this was a planed action from several serious breeders.
Last year showed a women a "Haertel Onagadori" on a show, and the judge told her that her bird is Phoenix. After the show she contacted Klaus Lüft, And Klaus contacted the guy from the ambasy. That is the circles run.
Klaus told me this facts half an hour ago on the phone.

I wish the so-called "Onagadori" breeders here in the US would attempt to sell to someone at the Japanese embassy, without actually putting one over on the embassy. Maybe that would cure a few people of using that breed name so casually if they then had the embassy after them.

I dream of the day that the judges here will know the difference.

goodness what a story...it is actually funny if you think of it... selling it to a Japanese, would indeed be good for the breed if sometimes more people would make such a mistake.
Not very nice for those who have birds from this line.

Well, it sounds like you can still pull something worthwhile out of these birds, but you have a project more like we have in cleaning up the genes! And it's good that the truth will get around about this guy, with the real pure Onags over there, people ought to know better.

Hi, Even if you have crosses of onagadori that's ok...They will produce you great birds.. I have Schubert birds and love them.No need to have sleepless nights over that. Keep us posted Tom. TMA
