I received from my good friend a translation of the latest letter from Mrs. Goto. She is such a sweet and kind hearted lady. I am honored to be able to stay in contact with she and her mother.
The main points of the letter are that there are only 11 breeders of Onagadori in Japan now with an estimated 250 birds combined, averaging slightly over 22 birds per breeder.
"People who don't know anything about it show interest, saying they'd like to try."
Sounds familiar, eh?

- to me at least. I get loads of e-mails from people wanting to try non-molters. They just know it's what they want within all certainty... until they find out what's required.
...
"Although we are few in number and can't make progress quickly, I am working in my own way."
So they are doing their best to keep the breed going the way it sounds.
If this will help anyone out there: The males receive natural lighting hours in a seasonal dawn to dusk timeline by means of whatever light from the room enters the tomebako through its slatted window.
Bye for now,
David
