Since I know Toni is the Mod here I'll address her, but anyone with experience here is welcome to input. Toni, I have a most lovely birchen cockeral stag that I'd like to use this year. He is currently in with 2 solid black hens. What should I expect from this cross and what else have you crossed to with the birchens and then what did you get? I especially like this fellas type is why I have held on to him. Any insight would be great Thank you in advance. J.J.

Birchen is on ER. Some are based on s+. (red) some on S (silver). So If your breeding to a black hen you can still get Solid black and birchen and brown reds (without any laceing on breast)... It depends on what allele there on... Is your birchien on red, silver.gold???? Image This roo if the pic came through is a brown red. No laced breast... He is s+... If he has silver on neck he is on S.....Thanks...Toni-Marie

Toni, yes he has the silver on his neck. I am most hopefull then that on my solid black girls I will have a chance at getting another solid black male. Your explaination also confirmed where my Brown reds came from the last 2 years as well. You just put it in technical terms for me. Thank You J.J.
